US auto industry and the Big Three

We have a car in the United States proud of the culture but it is surprising that many people do not know much about the history of the auto industry in this country. For this lesson, we focus on the car "industry" instead of the history of the automobile itself.

When it all began

In the 1890s, the US automotive industry began, through the use of large quantities of production and large domestic market, and quickly evolved into the largest automaker in the world (although this title is From the United States from Japan in the 1980s, and from Japan from China in 2008).

US automotive industry actually began with hundreds of manufacturers, but in the late 1920s, three companies distinguished themselves from the rest:

General Motors
ford
Chrysler
Big Three

And the pursuit of these three businesses flourished, even after the Great Depression and the Second World War. Henry Ford began to build cars in 1896 and began the Ford Motor Co. in 1903. Ford used the first tanker-based belt assembly line in 1913, and improve the production of large amounts of costs Of the assembly line of model T. decreased significantly and model T sold so that Ford paid the largest automaker in the United States

General Motors Company founded by William Durant (formerly the transport maker n) in 1908. During the first two years, GM got Buick, Oldsmobile, Oakland, California (later to become Pontiac), Cadillac, Other car companies. Durant also wanted to get a Ford, but Henry Ford chose to keep his business independent. After becoming a bit for "happy acquisitions" during the excessive expansion of the company and was forced by a group of banks that have regained control in the company. Durant then collaborated with Louis Chevrolet and founded Chevrolet in 1913, and became a quick success. Durant regained control of a majority stake in General Motors, after obtaining a sufficient stock of GM and Chevrolet got in 1917. But that did not last long, however. Durant was forced again in 1921. In the late 1920s, Ford surpassed GM as the largest car maker.

Former Buick president and former GM executive director, control signed Walter Chrysler of Maxwell Motor Company in 1920, redesigned it, reorganized to the Chrysler Corporation in 1925. Chrysler acquired the Dodge brothers in 1927, and in 1928, DeSoto made and the Plymouth brands business through its network of dealers and manufacturing that has come with the acquisition of Dodge facilities. In the 1930s, and it surpassed Chrysler and Ford became the second largest car producer.

1950 and beyond

In 1950, America produced nearly 75 percent of all cars in the world. In the early 1970s, however, companies and the US auto industry (and especially the three adults) were severely affected by increased competition from foreign manufacturers and rising oil prices. In the following years, businesses rebounded in some cases, but the crisis peaked in 2008, making Chrysler and General Motors pay a demand for bankruptcy reorganization and being bailed out by the federal government. While Ford was also affected by the crisis, the Authority decided by itself and did not take the rescue. We already have a lot of respect for Ford as a result. He did not take the easy way.

Witnessed in 2014 the largest (seasonally adjusted on an annual basis) sales in history with 16.98 million vehicles.
